Challenge

Railserve’s existing Yardtracker tool was outdated and confusing. Crews struggled with manual data entry, inefficient workflows, and a clunky interface that slowed down daily operations.

Solution

Yardtracker 2.0 delivers a simpler, faster experience for managing railcars — with streamlined workflows, bulk actions, real-time feedback, and helpful automation built in.

My Role

As Lead Product Designer, I led the end-to-end redesign — from research to final handoff. I mapped user flows, ran user tests, and delivered high-fidelity designs ready for development. Below are the key improvements we made for Yardtracker 2.0.

Smarter Search

Users can now search by multiple details like car type or location — with easy filters and instant results that make finding what they need faster and more flexible.

Faster Bulk Updates

Adding new cars to the system is smoother with step-by-step guidance and clear error messages — reducing mistakes and helping users stay on track.

Easier Receiving Process

Receiving inbound cars is smoother with simplified bulk uploads, step-by-step guidance, and clear error messages — reducing manual corrections and keeping operations on track.

More Accurate Car Lists

Our redesign keeps records accurate by adding built-in checks and move history tracking. Features like autosave, undo, and easy review of past moves help crews stay consistent and reduce mismatches between paperwork and system data.
